I just want a flat tummy. Why Is Everything a Secret?

Has this happened to you, too? You see a title of a cool article; let’s say one on how to get a flat tummy. This would be good knowledge to have, so you click on it.  And up pops this window involving you with an entire realm of window popping and requests for your information or maybe even a payment request.

Well, maybe you are not annoyed by this, but I am. In fact, I have gone through a whole bunch of hoops and then some just to help YOU get this information easier.  See how much I care?  As if it is not hard enough already for us as we get older to find out what we need to change to keep our youthful appearances. This window popping could have the opposite effect on my body and cause me to grow gray hair all over at lightning speed (as if my kids did not do enough of that already).

Now, I have read and compared a lot of articles on how to get a flat tummy over a period of probably 10 years, including information my personal trainer Mark Dodge (trainer and body-guard of THE POWER TEAM and TEAM IMPACT) used to smother me with. I searched and journeyed through the junk yard of dietary pop-ups. The majority I have tried on my own body, so you can look at this as my personal experience (Figure Competitions: 2007 through 2012 Venice Beach Armed Forces Competition; 2008 Orange County Classics, Anaheim; NESTA Personal Certified Trainer) and I can vouch for this with the results.

The first thing I learned was to always take in more protein than carbohydrates. A ratio of 40% protein, 35% carbohydrates, 25% fat is a good way to go.

Before I go any further, we need to take a better look at what carbohydrates are. Many people tell me they don’t know how to recognize each food group.  Here are a few examples:

  1. Protein –  meat, fish, poultry, cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt
  2. Carbohydrates      – starchy carbs = corn, potatoes, pasta, beans, rice                                 -– sugar carbs  =  fruits, candy, Juices, and                                                                 chocolate,                                                                                                      –  complex carbs= veggies,  salads, tomatoes                                                                    cucumber
  3. Fat (healthy) – all nuts, avocado, seeds, all nut butters, butter

To get to the point, the foods that have been changed the least from its natural state will be best for a flat stomach. So, yes, fat is good for you but as soon as you heat it, it becomes trans fat and it is very unhealthy and fattening. The heat changes its structure and molecular make up in a way that it is bad for our bodies.  So chicken and olive oil are only good combined in a salad. If you combine them in the frying pan, you created an unhealthy meal.

Another good idea is to keep healthy movement of food through your system and you can do that with fiber. Fiber is found in most carbohydrates and nuts. The best thing to do is to eat the complex carbs instead of grains (including bread). Other types of carbohydrates are weight gainers, or you can also call them “belly enhancers”.

Fat is important for our joints and it keeps us feeling full. Chose healthy fat, but since it has nine calories per one gram of fat, it is better to limit the intake. Fat stays in our system longer and lingers in the intestines and it is harder to digest.                             And last, what none of us wish it was true: Alcohol.

One ounce  of alcohol equals seven calories. We also tend to snack more when we enjoy a social beverage. But alcohol will also dehydrate us and make it harder for our foods to move through our system. All the foods that get “stuck” in the intestine will create a little “pooch” that we all are familiar with. Unless you are too attached to your little pooch but you’re ready to lose it, chose more water to drink and make good meal choices. If you are not, then what did you name Your little Pooch? Like every Sunday, I attended church last Sunday and carried my  container of alkaline water around with me. (Yes, I do that) I am very interested in helping people how to stay or become healthy. I really do feel compassion when I see troubled people  searching for answers. So I was carrying my container of alkaline water and decided to start a workshop about staying healthy or becoming healthy. I could start a workshop or a health information meeting and share information with people that doctors don’t tell us. So I asked a woman if she would be interested in attending. She told me she did not have any time. REALLY??? Wow!   Here is my thought process: When will you have time? When you are sick? Or someone you love is sick? No one on this world knows how much time we have, but don’t we all want to have quality time as long as we are here? I, for instance, do not want to be bed ridden and have to have someone change my diapers when I get older. I have plans after I retire, like climb mountains, go sky diving, skiing, and travel.

Anywho, there were some people who were interested. Most people who try my water keep coming back and want more. They really do taste and feel a difference. My Kangen alkaline water is truly amazing. My friend actually is concerned now when she travels, where is she going to get her Kangen water? Well, fortunately there are headquarters and other users who gladly share the water.  But what really concerns me is that doctors do not give us this important information. Instead they rather prescribe medication that sends them on a drug roller coaster causing a domino effect of failing organs and eliminating mobility.  I actually heard that it is child abuse if your child was diagnosed with leukemia and you refuse to do chemo therapy. Isn’t that insane? I would rather explore natural ways to help my child instead of killing all of her healthy cells along with her cancer cells. But if you are honest and look at reality, it’s all about money, not how to get you healthy! Doctors are not getting paid when you are healthy. But if they use expensive pharmaceuticals to “cure” you, then there are big rewards for them.  If you look around in this world, decide which people live the longest. The Japanese! And, do you know that doctors in Japan are paid when you are healthy? Yes. And that is exactly where the Kangen water comes from. The machine that makes that water is actually a medical device in Japan and has seals and endorsements from the Japanese Government.

Besides, I learned prevention is better than intervention. Would you rather avoid the hassle of trying to get better or not even get sick in the first place?
I believe the answer is pretty easy. And if one starts thinking about it after organs start failing, he or she missed the bus.

Something to think about: a vicious cycle

You may have noticed feeling cravings soon after starting a diet plan. As you begin to take in more alkaline foods you start to leave highly acidic and sugary foods behind. Since your body has become so accustomed to these substances, it feels it needs them and thus begins to signal this through food cravings. You will notice from studying your alkaline food chart that sugar is extremely acidic. This creates a nightmare within your body by messing with the body’s normal way of using sugars.

A Toxic Cycle

Sugar and glucose are essential to providing immediate energy needs and vital energy for your brain. The body’s normal response to a drop in blood sugar levels is to tell the liver to use its reserves to make glucose and to tell the brain to trigger the hunger mechanism. But when the environment within the body is too acidic this cause certain yeasts to quickly multiply. These little yeasts have huge appetites and start to eat and ferment the glucose, robbing from your body for its own use. This cycle repeats itself as the yeast excrete toxic wastes and contribute to even more acidity, which in turn keeps allowing more yeast to be produced and so on. This is an unending cycle as long as one continues to consume too much sugar.

If you were use to having one with every meal you have definitely thrown off your body’s PH level and encouraged the yeast cycle to develop. Along with being loaded with sugar, soft drinks also contain phosphoric acid which is highly acidifying. Taking in a lot of empty calories with no nutritional value is another reason to cut out soft drinks from your daily diet. Many feel that sports drinks, energy drinks and vitamin waters are a healthy alternative but these too are just as acidifying as colas. Even more harmful are diet and zero calorie drinks as these are full of artificial sweeteners, which do more harm than good.

Why Purified Water and Distilled Water are Bad For You

During nearly 19 years of clinical practice I have had the opportunity to observe the health effects of drinking different types of water. Most of you would agree that drinking unfiltered tap water could be hazardous to your health because of things like parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins. Many health fanatics, however, are often surprised to hear me say that drinking distilled water or purified water on a regular, daily basis is potentially dangerous.
Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapor condensed. Reverse osmosis or purified water is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Studies validate the benefits of drinking purified water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time). Fasting using purified water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure.
Purified water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. The more purified water a person drinks, the higher the body acidity becomes. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, “Purified” water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances with which it is in contact. Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic and even more aggressive. Many metals are dissolved by distilled water.
Most toxic commercial beverages that people consume (i.e. cola beverages and other soft drinks) are made from purified water. Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks (with or without sugar) spill huge amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine. The more mineral loss, the greater the risk for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and a long list of degenerative diseases generally associated with premature aging.
A growing number of health care practitioners and scientists from around the world have been advocating the theory that aging and disease is the direct result of the accumulation of acid waste products in the body. There is a great deal of scientific documentation that supports such a theory. A poor diet may be partially to blame for the waste accumulation. Stress, whether mental or physical can lead to acid deposits in the body. There is a correlation between the consumption of soft water (purified water is extremely soft) and the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Cells, tissues and organs do not like to be dipped in acid and will do anything to buffer this acidity including the removal of minerals from the skeleton and the manufacture of bicarbonate in the blood. I have done well over 3000 mineral evaluations using a combination of blood, urine and hair tests in my practice. Almost without exception, people who consume purified water exclusively, eventually develop multiple mineral deficiencies. Those who supplement their purified or distilled water intake with trace minerals are not as deficient but still not as adequately nourished in minerals as their non-purified water drinking counterparts even after several years of mineral supplementation. Purified water tends to be acidic and can only be recommended as a way of drawing poisons out of the body. Once this is accomplished, the continued drinking of purified water is a bad idea. Alkaline ionized Water is the best possible drinking water. Disease and early death is more likely to be seen with the long-term drinking of purified or distilled water. Avoid it except in special circumstances (that means if you have gone  already 3 days without water).

Did you know that your diet and what type of water you drink makes the biggest impact on your body and weight? Acidic causing foods will leave more waste in your body and it is harder for your liver and kidneys to clean up the left overs. With Alkaline water, the wastes will come out easier and cleans your system up.  Now you’re asking what is alkaline? 

Biochemist Otto Heinrich Warburg, one of the twentieth century’s leading cell biologists, discovered that the root cause of cancer is too much acidity in the body, meaning that the pH, potential hydrogen, in the body is below the normal level of 7.365, which constitutes an “acidic” state. Warburg investigated the metabolism of tumors and the respiration of cells and discovered that cancer cells maintain and thrive in a lower pH, as low as 6.0, due to lactic acid production and elevated CO2. He firmly believed that there was a direct relationship between pH and oxygen. Higher pH, which is Alkaline, means higher concentration of oxygen molecules, while lower pH, which is acidic, means lower concentrations of oxygen…the same oxygen that is needed to maintain healthy cells. In 1931 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for this important discovery. Dr. Warburg was director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute (now Max Planck Institute) for cell physiology at Berlin. He investigated the metabolism of tumors and the respiration of cells, particularly cancer cells. Below are some direct quotes by Dr. Warburg during medical lectures where he was the keynote speaker: “Cancerous tissues are acidic, whereas healthy tissues are alkaline. Water splits into H+ and OH- ions, if there is an excess of H+, it is acidic; if there is an excess of OH- ions, then it is alkaline.” In his work

The Metabolism of Tumours

Warburg demonstrated that all forms of cancer are characterized 

by two basic conditions: acidosis and hypoxia (lack of oxygen). “Lack of oxygen and acidosis are two sides of the same coin: where you have one, you have the other.””All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen – a rule without exception.“ “Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous.” Dr. Warburg has made it clear that the root cause of cancer is oxygen deficiency, which creates an acidic state in the human body. Dr. Warburg also discovered that cancer cells are anaerobic (do not breathe oxygen) and cannot survive in the presence of high levels of oxygen, as found in an alkaline state.




If you don’t want the truth, then why ask the question?

YOu know, it’s funny to me how people will approach me and ask me how they can lose 10 lbs or get in better shape. Then when I tell them, they are disappointed. Did they think I had a secret magic dust that I would just sprinkle on them and Voila? And besides, magic dust is very expensive and I would not want to waste it on someone who is not serious. You take the time to ask me the question, and then I take the time to answer. But after all is said and done, the person walks away with the same mindset that they came to approach me in the first place. Now the person wasted my time and their time. Taking care of your health and body is serious business. And a business should be treated like a person. You have to feed and nurture it. It’s like everything else in life. If it’s worth having, then it is worth working for. Nothing in life is free, not even a healthy body. Yes, your body itself was free, but there are maintenance and upkeep expenses. Do not fool yourself into thinking that your body is maintenance free and will stay one way forever. Let me ask you something: what kind of car are you driving? And – if you care what kind of car you are driving, what it looks like and if it has dings and dents in it, then why don’t you care about what kind of vessel your soul has to dwell in for the rest of your earthly life? We all have standards, but why is it that when it comes to our bodies and health, we lower the standards? Ironically though, in a partner we have higher expectations than what we are willing to offer them. We all should care what we put into our bodies, just like we care what kind of fuel or oil we put into our cars. Inform yourself about with which ingredients your body best performs and you would get the most mileage out of it. A high-grade oil and fuel is to cars as Alkaline water is to our body. ( So, for all those who do not want to rely on a “ride” from someone else or a wheelchair later in life, keep your own vessel performing and lasting for life.   – Get in gear for better health’


Problems maintaining your weight?

I really care about this subject. It consumes me with worries, that so many Americans have weight and health problems.  How come Europeans don’t?  When we look at the eating habits of each group, we see a significant difference in the purpose of food. American’s eat for recreation: What do you wanna do? – Go out for Dinner? Take popcorn into the theatre? Sit down for a drink?  In Europe, when someone asks what to do, most of the time the response is: Go dancing? Play tennis? Meet at the zoo? There is not so much food involved in their recreation and social events. Food serves the purpose to sustain aliveness, because we need it for fuel, but not for a reason to meet and hang out with someone.

Food at the wrong time and the wrong amount can throw off our bodily rhythm and our metabolic clock.  (Click here for more information: )

It is so easy, but most people want a quick fix, have their cake and eat it, too. Literally! Unfortunately, life is not how it used to be. We no longer have to use our energy to hunt down our dinner or fish our breakfast. It is readily available whenever we are ready to consume it. But even to find out the truth about food and our metabolic system, businesses take advantage of the naïveté of consumers and try to sell them a pill, or a diet cook book, or anything that the consumer is willing to buy. Truth is hard to come by. Sadly, the misinformed people pass their habits of consumption on to their children. I see children getting out of the car with their soft drink and a happy meal. People are appalled by the media informing us of how many children there are with cancer. What do we expect? Why are people preferring convenience to health? And how much time do you really save by picking up a quick meal on your way? I can prepare a home cooked meal in 30 mins, the amount of time it takes a person to stop by a drive through, order, and get home. I don’t believe it’s saving you time, but rather speeding up your time before you will be depending on someone else to care for you. And then, would you want them to bring you your last burger?  And, do you want fries with that?

I was sick for four days!!! FOUR days?!! I have not been sick in 6 years and hardly knew how to act. But anyways, enough about me. I finally recovered and today for the first time in 5 days was able to breathe some fresh air.  I am a generally healthy person and I don’t want to know how much longer I would be sick if it wasn’t for my amazingly strong immune system to get me back on track.  Or what I would do if I was sick until…….?

So, I woke up to a text message from my daughter telling me that one of my co-workers/buddies died last Thursday, leaving behind a wife and 2 young adult children. Just one year after my other co-worker/buddies died, leaving behind a wife, 2 young adult daughters and one grand baby. My first buddy died just four months after I had decided to obtain the lifestyle I deserve and worked for and moved to Hawaii. I needed to have more peace in my life and enjoy more of my free time doing what I like, instead of sitting on a freeway trying to get home.   My move happened a year and a half ago. Anyways, now this.   I used to be concerned about both of their health. Apparently more concerned than they were themselves. I actually filled up containers with alkaline water and brought the water to them. My buddy who died a year ago would not even drink the water. He told me that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Really?? But he already knew how to drink. (?) The second buddy expected that he would continue to get his water delivered to his house. At least he drank the water but getting it himself was out of the question. Now, my supervisor falls in the same category, but he is still alive. A year ago he had heart surgery…….do I need to say more?

The thing is, what is more expensive – a healthier lifestyle or ignoring facts. How much does it cost you to drink healthy water ( Last week I was telling a friend about healthy alkaline coffee. He inquired about the price. I guess $1.00 per sachez is too expensive ( Where it is acceptable that Starbucks charges almost $5.00 for a Latte!!!  I am not sure I can follow this type of thinking. The price of my health, and possibly missing watching my kids grow up, and having grand kids… just too high! I am not sure if I should attribute this action, or better, lack of, to laziness or stubbornness.  But it is simply not smart.  Wake up and smell the coffee, America! The FDA is not looking out for your best interest. What are they regulating anyway? How fast or how a person should die? They are certainly not making sure the products consumers are offered are healthy, let alone safe to consume! I found out, in life, thinking is mandatory. “Question authority” is what my English teacher in college used to tell me. And I have never stopped questioning since.

It seems paradoxical that a product with no calories could result in gaining weight. In fact, most of us don’t believe this to be the case. But the untold secret of diet beverages is this: weight gain is complicated. It’s not strictly a matter of what you ingest, it’s what your body thinks you ingested.

Artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame, can trick the body into thinking that sugar is being ingested, which causes the body to release extra insulin to help metabolize that sugar.

That would be appropriate if you actually were eating sugar. This insulin spike causes the body to remove glucose from the blood stream and store it away as fat. Meanwhile, the body now realizes that there are no calories coming, but it’s too late because the insulin has already hit your blood stream. This sets the stage for low blood sugar, which, in turn, triggers your urge to grab something super-sweet. If this happened once in a while, your body could manage. But if this is a daily or several-times-a-day occurrence, your blood sugar and appetite can get severely out of whack while your pancreas exhausts itself trying to produce the large amounts of insulin it thinks you need.  In addition, soda have a lot of chemicals which increases toxins in the body. These toxins are adding to already existing toxins foods produce naturally and the body needs to clean them up every day. By adding more for your body to clean up, eventually you will exhaust the motor of the body by overworking it and one day the body will just quit. That would be the result of kidney failure!

The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio researches obesity issues and they also are investigating that artificial sweeteners may increase your risk of obesity in that these sweeteners play head games with you. That is, something in their chemical structure that may alter the way the brain processes serotonin, a powerful neurotransmitter that helps tell us when we’re full.
If you eat natural foods, serotonin steps in and turns off your appetite at the brain level. But if an artificial sweetener has messed up serotonin levels, your appetite stays on long after it should have switched off. While researchers cannot prove conclusively how diet sodas make you gain weight, it is clear that a nation of diet-soda lovers is getting fatter and fatter.

Stop drinking diet sodas—actually switch over to water. And don’t use artificially sweetened flavors in your water. If you need something to flavor your water try natural lemon or lime juice.

Eliminate artificial sweeteners as much as possible from the rest of your diet.

Try to increase the natural foods you eat; you don’t need to go to a health spa! Just pick up fruits and veggies at the grocery store.

Build a sensible diet and exercise program that does not revolve around sugar-free diet products.

Old-fashioned apple cider vinegar may not seem like an amazing product, but it can be used in lots of ways that could surprise you. Unlike lots of modern foods, apple cider vinegar is a simple, natural product that has been around for a long time. But even your grandmother may not have known about some of these “vinegar cures.”

Drinking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in an 8 oz glass of water every day may slow the production of histamines and reduce your allergies. This home remedy is recommended to be done all year long, whether you are suffering from allergies or not. This regimen is also believed to help your body cleanse itself of toxins.

Herbal vinegars—which you can make yourself by adding dried herbs to vinegars—can help you absorb the minerals in your salad (and in the dried herbs) better by making for an acid environment (acid helps the body absorb vitamins and minerals better).

I am sitting here in Kona, Hawaii and think life can’t get any better. with my hot cut of Organo Gold Latte Supreme, I get a beautiful start of the day. Today is going to be a parade in Kona in honor of King Kamehameha. The holiday was Monday and today there will be celebrations Hawaiian style.

I love living on this Island in the middle of the pacific. I was seeking out peace, a healthy life style and wealth, and God has given me all I asked for. He is an amazing and giving God! Truly, all things that are written in the bible are real. One only has to understand the words mean.

Whatever you desire, with faith and prayer you shall receive it. Dream, Believe, And Achieve.
